Jumla’s Elected Representatives in Election Campaigning

The election code prohibits elected representatives from engaging in campaign activities. However, in Jumla, ward chairs, rural municipality and municipal heads, deputy chairs, mayors, deputy mayors, and provincial MPs have been actively campaigning for their own parties and candidates.

Two provincial MPs, eight local-level chiefs and deputies, and all 60 ward chairs have been involved in campaigning. Independent provincial MP Devendra Shahi has been campaigning for the Congress candidate, while UML-elected Tekraj Pachai has been promoting his party and its candidate. Similarly, Congress-elected rural municipality heads Lakshman Shahi (Hima), Damodar Acharya (Kanakasundari), Daan Bahadur Budha (Guthichaur), and Maoist-elected Sinja rural municipality head Purnaprasad Dhital have been actively campaigning.

Elected representatives are prohibited from campaigning in their wards or municipalities, and doing so violates the election code. Rastriya Prajatantra Party candidate Gyanendra Shahi has urged youth to report any violations by local representatives, with evidence, to the Chief Election Officer and police.

The Chief Election Officer, Anand Raj Pant, stated that local representatives, employees, and teachers have been repeatedly warned about election code violations.

Jumla has one parliamentary constituency with 11 candidates, including one independent, 71,739 registered voters, 85 polling stations, and 110 polling centers, according to District Election Officer Dipendra Kadel.
