The Janakpur High Court has reported that it disposed of 4,619 out of 6,516 cases registered during the fiscal year 2025/26, achieving a case disposal rate of 70.88 percent. Against its target of resolving 4,546 cases, the court exceeded expectations by disposing of 101.60 percent of the target. Acting Chief Judge Tek Narayan Kunwar stated that the court’s annual performance was made public with the objective of ensuring citizens’ access to justice, effectively implementing the constitutional right to timely justice, and strengthening judicial accountability.
According to the court, a total of 6,516 cases were registered during the review period. Of these, 4,619 cases were decided, while 1,897 remain pending. The Acting Chief Judge further noted that all cases pending for more than two years had been resolved within the current fiscal year, describing the clearance of old cases as a significant achievement in reducing judicial delays and ensuring effective public access to justice.
According to the published statistics, the court’s case disposal rates were 49.15 percent in fiscal year 2021/22, 44.17 percent in 2022/23, 71.13 percent in 2023/24, 66.05 percent in 2024/25, and 70.88 percent in 2025/26.
The Acting Chief Judge stated that the court has prioritized the use of information technology, making the judicial process faster, more efficient, transparent, and service-oriented compared to previous years.
Referring to the practice of livestreaming court proceedings via YouTube, he said the court remains sensitive to the issue and has adopted a policy of broadcasting proceedings only after obtaining the consent of the concerned parties and legal practitioners. He emphasized that while upholding the principles of open justice, transparency, and the right to information, equal priority has also been given to protecting personal privacy, judicial impartiality, and the rights of parties involved in sensitive cases.
Acting Chief Judge Kunwar stated that the Janakpur High Court will continue to make its performance more effective in the coming days to ensure equal access to justice for all citizens, the right to timely justice, judicial transparency, accountability, and greater public confidence in the judiciary.
