Bahakt Bahadur Singhak, 52, from Durdimba, Ward No. 8 of Miklajung Rural Municipality, who had been held in pretrial detention at the District Prison Office, Panchthar on a murder charge, died during treatment on June 27.
The accused had been in pretrial detention since November 24, 2025, on charges of fatally shooting his son, Safal Singhak,19 during a domestic dispute on October 26, 2025. According to police, he died while undergoing treatment at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, Ghopa, on June 27, 2026.
DSP Anish Karn of the District Police Office, Panchthar, said that the accused had been ill for some time. He had been receiving treatment at the District Hospital, but after his condition deteriorated on June 27, he was referred to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, Ghopa for further treatment.
Although doctors pronounced him dead during treatment on June 27, DSP Karn said that the body has been kept at the institute’s mortuary.
According to DSP Karn, the family has been informed of the incident, and after the completion of the required legal procedures, the body will be handed over to the family.
