Journalist Aishwarya Kunwar was arrested on June 21, 2026, on charges of physically assaulting and misbehaving with Rabindra Devkota, Ward Chairperson of Bhimdatta Municipality–18, at a public venue hotel.
According to DSP Tek Bahadur Rawat of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, Kunwar was arrested after allegedly assaulting and misbehaving with Ward Chairperson Devkota at a public event on June 21. Police are investigating the case under charges of public misconduct and public offense.
Ward Chairperson Devkota stated that he filed a complaint at the District Police Office on June 21 against journalist Kunwar after she allegedly assaulted and misbehaved with him during a drug-awareness training program for children being held at Sweet Dream Hotel in Mahendranagar.
According to Devkota, a day before the incident, journalist Kunwar had called him requesting the contact number of the contractor, alleging that the road construction work was of poor quality. He said that while he suggested meeting in person to discuss the issue, the call ended. The following day, she allegedly entered the event venue and assaulted and mistreated him.
A video showing journalist Kunwar allegedly assaulting and misbehaving with Ward Chairperson Devkota was also circulated on social media.
