Police Arrests Accused of Caste-Based Discrimination.

Law enforcement authorities have apprehended Mr. Tara Prasad Pokhrel, a 68-year-old resident of Ghorahi Sub-municipality-17, on the charge of unlawfully evicting individuals from their residence based on caste discrimination. The victims, Mr. Angraj Pariyar (23 years old), originally from Humla District Adanchuli Rural Municipality-3, Mr. Mahendra Bik (23 years old), and his wife Mrs. Shanti Bik (23 years old), were evicted from their home based on discriminatory grounds. A formal complaint was lodged at the district police office.

The three individuals, who were studying at Krishnasen Interested Polytechnic School in Dang, had been renting Mr. Pokhrel’s house for a period of six months. On June 29th, the accused reportedly made derogatory remarks, stating that they were Dalits and not permitted to reside in his property. Subsequently, the victims filed a complaint at the police office after the accused threw their belongings out of the room, citing health issues caused by their presence.

DSP Rajanraj Gautam of the District Police Office confirmed the arrest of the accused and informed that an investigation has been initiated based on the complaint filed by the victims.

In response to this incident of caste discrimination, various organizations, including the Dalit Journalists Association in Dang, have voiced their protest and called for appropriate action against the perpetrators.
