The Supreme Court has ordered the release of Anish Tamang, Executive Editor and Prabhat Lama, General Manager of Ujjyalo Network Online.
The court issued the order in a habeas corpus writ filed by the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Lalitpur, demanding the release of Durgalal Lama known as Prabhat Lama.
A joint bench of Justices Ishwor Khatiwada and Ananda Mohan Bhattarai ordered that both of them should not be kept in custody as the investigation could be completed even if they were kept on May 7. The Supreme Court has declared the arrest made by the police as unfair and illegal.
Police had arrested them for violating the court’s order.
Ujjyalo Network Online had reported a few days ago that an agreement had been reached between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Samant Kumar Goyal, the head of the Indian intelligence agency RAW.
However, the news later apologized saying that the news was not confirmed. The Patan High Court had ordered not to arrest the journalist on April 22 in the name of the police.
