Inmates and Detainees facing trouble due to overcrowd

The inmates and detainees in District Prison of Banke are facing difficulties due to the overcrowd. The prison administration is facing crisis of management.

The District Prison of Banke has a capacity to accommodate 300 inmates and detainees however there are 655 inmates and detainees, this includes 56 female and 599 male inmates. They are facing various health issues due to the summer season.

There are 16 rooms for male and four for female. In male room 35-40 inmates are living whereas in female room 14/15 inmates are adjusted according to jailer Shyam Lammichhane.

The inmates and detainees are facing health issues, clean drinking water, using toilets, sleeping and even eating. Jailer Lamicchhane said that new regional prison is being constructed in Banke which might solve this crisis.

Similarly, the custody under the DIstrict Prison is also facing issue of overcrowd. There are double detainees than its capacity. The custody has capacity to accommodate only 24 detainees however there are 53 of them.
