More than 5,000 Victims of Human Rights Violation and Abuses in 2020

In a program organized in Lalitpur, the statistics of 5,543 victims of human rights violations and abuses have been made public.

Such statistics have been made public in the Nepal Human Rights Year Book 2021 release program organized by Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) in Lalitpur on February 19. The data has been included in the Nepal Human Rights Year Book 2021, which is being published every year since 1992.

The Nepal Human Rights Year Book 2021 has been released by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Nepal, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali. According to INSEC records, 5,543 people were victims of human rights violations and abuses in 2020. According to INSEC, 6,742 people were victimized in such incidents in 2019 BS.

According to the Executive Director of INSEC, Bijay Raj Gautam, in 2020, a total of 675 people, including 58 women and 617 men, were victims of human rights violations, and a total of 4,868 people, including a third gender, 4,271 women, 595 men and one undisclosed person were victims of human rights abuses.

INSEC documented the death of 343 people, including seven men from the state’s side and one third, 158 women and 184 men from the other side. This year, there have been nine victims of torture, 370 of arrest, 48 of racial discrimination, 25 inhumane behaviour, 94 of right to assembly, 25 cases of threat and 320 cases of beatings. According to INSEC, 2,606 cases of violence against women and 1,461 cases of child rights violations were documented in 2020.
