Details on victims of Enforced Disappearance
(1996-2006)

A First recorded incident of enforced disappearance in Nepal dates back to 1951. The trend continued during the authoritarian Panchayat era but went up alarmingly during the armed conflict launched by the then CPN-M. Both the state and the rebels were responsible for enforced disappearance.

Report on the killings in May 2010

Killing, abduction and extortion among other problems have persisted in Nepal even after the successful April Movement 2006 and Comprehensive Peace Agreement 2006. Activities as those common during the 10 years of conflict were thought of being numbered after the peace agreement but the things did not turn out had expected by the people. A new wave of Madhesh Uprising emerged in January 2007 and sprouting armed groups calling for the cause of Madhesi people and other nationalities have only added to the difficulties.

Extrajudicial Killing of Maina Sunar: A Case Report

Namelist of the Persons Dying Due to Diarrhea in Mid Western and Far Western Region

Diarrhea outbreak has been noticed in the hilly districts of Far Western and Mid-Western Region since the beginning of summer. Since February 26, 2010 to April 25, 17 persons have died due to the disease. One death occurred in Western Region on April 21 and disease has been noticed in many other districts. The name-list of the persons succumbing to the disease has been compiled on the basis of the reports sent by INSEC district representatives and monitoring report of the Regional Offices.

In July, INSEC district representatives reported six incidents resulting in nine casualties of which two persons were killed. In August, there were two victim-activated incidents with three casualties. Mid-West region was most affected with three incidents and four casualties while Central region and two incidents and four casualties among whom two were dead.

Summary:

In May, INSEC district representatives reported six incidents resulting in 18 casualties of which nine persons were killed. There was no victim-activated incident in June. Western region was most affected with two incidents and 12 casualties among whom nine persons died and one lost one leg.

In March, INSEC district representatives reported seven incidents resulting in 39 casualties of one person was killed. In April, INSEC district representatives reported three incidents with four casualties. Mid-Western Region was most affected with five incidents and six casualties while Far-western Region had one incident in Doti with one casualty. Eastern region had one incident with 32 villagers injured.
