Over 200 Inmates of Kailali Jail Still At Large

A total of 256 inmates from Kailali Jail are still on the run. These 256 inmates escaped from Kailali Jail on September 9 during the jail break incident.

Although a notice was issued asking the escaped inmates to return by October 6, only 397 inmates, including 37 women, had returned as of November 4, according to the jail chief, Chiranjeevi Sapkota.

Among the escapees, 21 women and 235 men are still out of contact, while 11 inmates have surrendered to other prisons, and one inmate reportedly committed suicide while absconding, Sapkota stated.

Kailali Jail had a total of 667 inmates, including 58 women, before the incident. On September 9, amid protests, all inmates had fled from the prison. Chief Sapkota added that efforts to arrest and return the escaped inmates to prison are ongoing.
