Elections May Be Difficult at 15 Polling Sites

It has been reported that conducting elections in 15 polling centers of Jumla could be difficult in case of snowfall. Chief District Officer Deepak Paudel stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs has already been informed about the possibility of difficulties in conducting elections at these polling centers if it snows. Jumla has eight local levels, including one municipality and seven rural municipalities. There are 85 polling sites and 110 polling centers in the district. The total number of voters in the district is 71,739, among whom 37,459 are male and 34,280 are female.

According to the District Administration Office of Jumla, about 30 percent of the citizens are currently outside the district. Since snowfall occurs from Mangsir to Chaitra, Chief District Officer Paudel stated that citizens of Jumla go to the Terai region to escape the cold and for various trade and business purposes.

He further explained that many residents of Jumla also have homes in Nepalgunj and Surkhet, so they travel there during winter and come to the village for farming during the rainy season, which is why fewer people are currently present in the villages.

During the observation of polling centers for the upcoming elections on March 5, it was noted that several houses in the settlements of Jumla had their doors closed. Chief District Officer Paudel stated that about 30 percent of the total population of the district is currently outside the district. Gorikala Nepali of Tila Rural Municipality–4 stated that people from Jumla have gone to cities like Nepalgunj, Surkhet, Kathmandu, and even to India for trade, business, and other work, making it uncertain whether they will return during the election period. She mentioned that out of 181 households in the village, all members of 25 households have gone to different cities in India and Nepal.
