Drinking Water Shortage in Bagar

Residents of Bagar in Dangisharan Rural Municipality–6 are facing a severe shortage of drinking water. Although there are two natural water sources in the village, the absence of a storage tank has left residents struggling to access safe drinking water. Many are forced to walk for about 30 minutes to reach the water source.

Local resident Sita Chaudhary said that even after reaching the source, people often have to wait for up to an hour to collect water. “It takes half an hour to reach the spring, and even then it is difficult to get our turn,” she said.

Around 150 households live in the area. Residents of Thandibazar, Bankhalyan, Naya Gaun, Gothi Gaun, and other settlements in Bagar are among those affected. Local resident Emeshan Chaudhary said the problem could be resolved by constructing an overhead tank to collect water from the two springs and distribute it throughout the village. “If water from both sources were stored in a single overhead tank, it would be sufficient for the entire village, and people would not have to wait in line for hours,” he said.

A deep borewell was also installed in the village, and household taps were connected. Water flowed through the taps for some time, but they have since run dry. According to local resident Nim Bahadur Khatri, the lack of a storage tank has resulted in water being wasted. “The water level dropped below the motor, and the taps stopped supplying water,” he said.

Residents say they have repeatedly appealed to all levels of government to address the drinking water crisis, but no action has been taken. Although election candidates promised to resolve the issue, those commitments have yet to materialize.
