Save Life of Dr. KC
Today is the fourth day since Dr. Govinda KC, Professor of Tribhuwan University Teaching Hospital began his fast-unto-death. The doctors have said that the protest has severe impacts in his health condition. Dr. KC has staged fast-unto-death twice before for reforms and reputation of the Institution of Medicine (IoM). His demand is to conduct Teaching Hospital in purely professional way; and ensure transparency and accountability. According to published news, doctors and hospital staffers, decisions with vested interests have been made in the IoM. The institute established with foreign aid to provide health services to Nepali people has been able to garner reputation nationally and internationally. However, the character to fiddle with the reputation of this institution and fulfill personal interest of political parties in all sectors has caused damage there.
We urge the Nepal Government to be firmly active in developing and mobilizing the institution as an external influence-free body, keeping in view the repute of this institution, freedom and need of medical sector. We remind that moral responsibility of Dr. KC’s health lies with all Nepali people. Thus, we call on the Government to take immediate courageous steps for protection of his lie.
