The INSEC Koshi Province Office, Biratnagar, provided legal assistance along with financial support to help the victim’s family pursue the search and legal process in connection with the disappearance of the woman, who went missing mysteriously from the house of her husband, Ajay Rai, 30, in Amarduwa of Barju Rural Municipality–3 on September 22, 2025.
After the victim’s father, Brahmadev Rai, requested assistance on June 4, 2026, appealing for help in seeking justice, the INSEC Koshi Province Office Coordinator, Manohar Kumar Pokharel, stated that Rs. 5,000 was provided to the victim’s family along with legal assistance to support the judicial process.
According to the victim’s father, Brahmadev Rai, his daughter, who was married according to social traditions to 30-year-old Ajay Rai of Amarduwa, Barju Rural Municipality–3, went missing mysteriously from her husband’s house on September 22, 2025. He stated that although a police complaint was filed, the police neglected the case, which is why he approached INSEC for support.
The victim’s father further stated that his daughter went missing after she informed her maternal family about an alleged illicit relationship between her husband, Ajay Rai, and his sister-in-law. He added that following this disclosure, the husband used to beat her.
He also stated that after the relationship between the daughter and her husband deteriorated, a complaint was submitted on October 8, 2025, to the Amreshwarnath Tole Development Committee in Barju Rural Municipality–3. During discussions among local community elders, the husband allegedly admitted his wrongdoing and took the daughter away, after which she went missing mysteriously 17 days later.
The victim’s father further stated that after his daughter went missing, he initially searched for her himself, but as there was no progress, he filed a complaint at the Area Police Office, Duhabi, on March 20. However, instead of providing updates on the action taken, the police allegedly kept postponing the case, saying to return after Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath.
He also stated that 20 days after the disappearance, on October 12, 2025, a decomposed body of a woman was found on the bank of the Harinagar stream. He added that when he visited the mortuary at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, Ghopa, the condition of the teeth and face appeared similar to his daughter’s, and he requested DNA testing from the police, but instead, the police conducted only a post-mortem.
Following the intervention of INSEC, with the support of INSEC Koshi Province Office, the victim’s family submitted a petition on 28 Jestha 083 via postal service to the Police Headquarters, Naxal, Kathmandu, against the accused, Ajay Rai, 30, husband of the missing woman, and his brother-in-law, Ravi Rai, 35.
After INSEC’s initiative, the victim’s family also sent the petition to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the District Administration Office, Sunsari, and the District Police Office, Sunsari, with copies for information
