At Kanakasundari Secondary School, located in Kanakasundari Rural Municipality–5, Ludku, an unidentified group entered the premises on the night of June 4, and attempted vandalism and arson. The school administration has stated that significant damage has been caused to the school’s digital equipment, educational materials, and infrastructure.
According to Principal Narayan Neupane of the school, around 9 PM on June 4, the unidentified group entered the school premises, switched off the main electrical line by turning off the MCB, and cut the wires. Following this, various equipment in the office and classrooms was vandalized.
The vandalism resulted in damage to 10 computer CPUs, two laptops, the power cable of a smart digital board, the e-attendance system, three CCTV cameras, RJ cables, five head microphones, microphone horns, and two projectors, the school reported.
According to the school administration, some of the damaged materials were found discarded about 100 meters below the school premises near a stream. Items such as wall clocks, desktop computers, and CCTV cameras were recovered from the site.
The most serious aspect of the incident, the school reported, was an attempt to burn the answer sheets of Grade 11 students’ examinations. The principal, Narayan Neupane, informed that the answer sheets, which were securely stored inside a room, were set on fire, and some were found partially burnt.
Although the cause of the incident is still under investigation, initial assumptions suggest that it may have been driven by some form of grievance related to examinations or the school.
The Education Section Chief of Kanakasundari Rural Municipality, Jiwan Rokaya, stated that such criminal activity against an educational institution is extremely unfortunate and condemnable, and urged the concerned authorities to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice. He also said that the rural municipality would take the initiative for damage assessment and necessary support for restoration.
Through a letter signed by acting principal Marichman Kafle, the Police Post Gothijyula, Jumla, has been requested to carry out an impartial investigation into the incident and take strict action against those responsible. Police have currently prepared an on-site inspection report and initiated preliminary investigations.
