State Accused for Cheating Earthquake Victims

The locals of Bhatauli of Ramechhap said that state have cheated earthquake victims in the name of relief.
The participants had expressed their views while speaking at public hearing program organised by Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) in Bhatauli, Manthali Municipality-13 on August 25.
While speaking at the program, coordinator Surershan Prasai of Civil forum said that the reconstruction work has been halted because of state not providing fund to the victims. He said that the civilian’s issues have not been addressed yet.
Bhuwan Hari Prasai of Nepali Congress accused state of putting people in dilemma in the name of process. He added that even now there are many victims waiting for state’s relief.
Ward representative Kamal Bahadur Khadka of CPN UML said state has given pain to victims by obstructing stones and sand to make houses. Shre Bahadur Majhi of CPN Maoist accused state of taking undue advantage from civilians. He complained that state has failed to provide grant money to victims.
Shrebansha Kandel of RPP said that earthquake victims are still compelled to live under tent and are suffering from viral fever and typhoid.
In Manthali municipality ward 13 and 14 a total of 1,197 earthquake victims have identity card of which 921 names has been published for building private shelter and out of which agreement has been made with 900 victims. Similarly, 125 victims complained that their names have been missing from the list.
Speaking at the program, chairperson Durga Bahadur Shrestha of community forest consumer federation , Ramechhap said that the federation is ready to provide discount on woods to make shelters for the victims.
The program was participated by 122 people including 94 male and 28 female participants.
