Report made public on 1,035 victims in 2016
A discussion program on Human Rights situation and issues of media personnel and Human Rights defenders has been organized by INSEC regional office of Biratnagar on January 3.
In the occasion, the incidents on human rights violations and atrocities documented during the year 2016 in eastern region was made public by INSEC documentation officer Dev Raj Pokhrel. According to the data, in 2016 in eastern region there were 1012 incidents were documented and in that incident 1035 people were victimized.
There were 14 male and three women were victimized by the state actor and by non-state actor a total of 1017 people were victimized. This includes 945 women and 72 male.
Speaking at the program, INSEC eastern regional coordinator Som Raj Thapa said that comparatively there has been decrease in Human Rights violation incidents compared to the last year’s data however the incidents on women rights violation has been significantly increased. He added that it is unfortunate that women violence and child rape has been increasing this year.
Bidur Subedi, vice-chairperson of Human Rights Alliance said that human rights issues needed to be taken in wide prospect. He recommended that political, social , economic and cultural sectors must be included in Human Rights.
