Landline Phone Connected on the Initiation of Monitoring Group
The prison of the Palpa district has connected landline phone on the initiation of District level Human rights monitoring group under the ELP program of Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC).
Monitoring Group on February 19 forwarded letter to the Chief District Officer Baburam Gautam drawing his attention towards the inconvenience faced by the inmates as they had to rely on one single phone waiting for hours in line. Also, the available CDMA phone not being reliable and expensive on the other hand, the inmates did not had easy access to communications which is why it was requested to bring landline phone with the same to rate make calls on Nepal telecom phones.
Later, Chief District Officer Baburam Gautam informed that the number 075-521246 and 521343 were provided to female and male prisoners accordingly by displacing the CDMA phone which was comparatively more expensive.
With the connection of landline Phone, the sticky notes for the amount per minute have been gummed in the phone set. It has been managed to collect Rs. 1.25 per minute for Nepal Telecom phones, Rs. 2.46 per minute for Ncell numbers and Rs. 1.25 for calling in landline numbers. The time period of phone call is recorded and has been made an arrangement to pay the money to the head prisoner.
