Interaction Program with Media Regarding the Situation of Human Rights

Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC) Province 2 Office Janakpur has conducted an interaction program with media persons on the situation of human rights in the province. The program was conducted in Janakpur on July 6.

The interaction program was organized under the Media Partnership Meeting. Bir Bahadur Budha Magar, Chief of the National Human Rights Commission, Province 2, met with the team of the Nepal Human Rights Commission and INSEC working in the field of human rights reporting, on-site monitoring, and meeting with the families of the victims. He said that he has been collecting accurate facts by doing so.

He said that the monitoring of human rights activists and media personnel in cases of human rights violations has given access to justice to the families of the victims.

Chairperson of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Province 2, Rajesh Kumar Karna, said that journalists and human rights activists should take the lead for free writing and speech as this has been ensured in the constitution.

He said that the state should be able to address the problems of the needy, the deprived, the labourers, and the daily-waged workers during the pandemic.

He stressed the need for continuous coordination and cooperation between the media and human rights activists for the economic, social, and cultural rights of human beings.

INSEC Province 2 Coordinator Raju Paswan said that INSEC has been holding discussions and coordination with the media for the protection and promotion of human rights.

He stressed the need to guarantee security as the media personnel and human rights activists working for the protection and promotion of human rights are at risk.

He said that the repeated prohibitory orders did not stop the recurrence of human rights violations and that everyone’s attention should be drawn towards it.

Manika Jha, Chairperson of the Dhanusha branch of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, said that the human rights situation in Dhanusha was not satisfactory.

She said that the people are getting health care due to the initiative and constant pressure of the media and human rights activists.

Journalist Sujit Jha said that there has been some improvement in the health sector as journalists continue to report about the private hospitals found to be charging more for their services and facilities.

Human rights activist Binod Mahara said that INSEC has been collecting and presenting statistics of human rights violations every year, which has helped in analysing the human rights situation.

Women’s rights activist Subhadra Ale Magar said that women, children, and senior citizens have suffered more during the prohibitory period.

He praised the media and human rights activists for their initiative and advocacy for justice for the victims. INSEC Province 2 Program Focal Person Barun Bashyal said that INSEC has been taking initiative for justice through district representatives in cases of human rights violations in Province 2.

He emphasized the need for journalists and human rights activists to work together for justice to the victims.
