Action Plan Development and Problem Identification Meeting Concluded
The Human Rights Group of Shambhunath Municipality, established by the Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) Madhesh Province, successfully concluded its action plan development and problem identification meeting on 9th October 2024. Chairperson Pulkit Bhagat of the Human Rights Group stated that the action plan includes initiatives such as monitoring schools, conducting a registration campaign for children in the Dalit community, holding online discussions three times a month, organizing cleanliness programs, planting trees, and launching a campaign against gender-based violence.
The meeting has decided to form a human rights group in all the wards, to submit a letter of attention to the municipality and related agencies to solve the problems seen in the wards. Ward Chairperson Rajkumar Shah emphasized that all rights granted by the province must be received by the citizens. He expressed his happiness with the operation of the Human Rights Group, which aims to raise awareness about issues that have deprived people of their rights due to illiteracy and social stigma.
Municipality member Sajani Devi Sardar committed to bringing all the issues raised in the meeting to the municipality’s attention. She emphasized the need for everyone to unite and cooperate in launching campaigns against all forms of violence. Devi Maya Bhattarai, Chairperson of the Human Rights Group Madhesh Province, stated that it is essential to create an environment where every citizen who is far from access to justice can receive justice. She mentioned the need to discuss the establishment of a help desk in the municipality and to bring this matter to the attention of the Mayor.
Pulkit Bhagat, Chairperson of the Human Rights Group of Shambhunath Municipality, stated that it is necessary to identify citizens deprived of their rights and ensure they have access to justice. He also emphasized that the municipality should hold a public hearing program once a year. In the meeting held in the conference hall of Ward Number 11, chaired by the group’s Chairperson Bhagat, INSEC facilitator Ajay Pariyar provided information about the work and objectives of the INSEC’s project.
