Take Steps to Save Five Nepalis in Death Row
Our serious attention has been drawn towards the execution of an Indonesian national and five foreign nationals by the Indonesian government on January 18.
Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) has learnt that five Nepalis- Bahar Tamang, Bir Bahadur Gurung, Indra Bahadur Gurung, Nar Bahadur Tamang and Til Bahadur Bhandari have also been sentenced to death on similar charges.
We call on the Government of Nepal to take diplomatic initiation to save the lives of these Nepalis. It is also a moral obligation of the Government to take the step as being a state party to international treaty abolishing death penalty.
The Indonesian human rights organizations had also regretted the death sentence against these Nepalis by Indonesia court which had not sentenced anyone to death in the last five years till 2013.
Brazil and the Netherlands have recalled their envoys in protest of executing their nationals on January 18.
