Woman Sustained Injuries by Beating of Armed Police Force

Sandhya BK, a 32-year-old woman from Sukashal, Bhimdatta Municipality-5, was subjected to a beating on October 21, 2024, by Assistant Head Constable Saraswati Bhandari of the Armed Police Force. The incident took place when she was returning household goods from India. Victim BK reported that Assistant Head Constable Sarawati Bhandari of the Armed Police Force on duty at the customs office in Gaddachauki abused her by hitting them with a baton and fists resulting in deep injuries to her face, hands, thighs, and abdomen.

The victim added that while another woman from Bedkot Municipality, who was returning with household goods from India, was being assaulted by the Armed police force the victim urged to stop the assault but instead, the Assistant Head Constable Sarawati Bhandari took the victim to the army barrack to stop assaulting Assistant Head Constable Bhandari put her in a vehicle and took her to the barracks and assaulted her as per the victim.

Padma Raj Awasti, the Chairperson of Ward-5 of Bhimdatta Municipality, stated that they have requested legal action against the officer involved in the incident by meeting with DSP Tejraj Sharma of the Armed Police Office in Gaddachauki. Chairperson Awasti stated that it is against the law to cause undue suffering and assault citizens, so action must be taken. According to Assistant Head Constable Bhandari, during a customs inspection, after the police stopped BK from taking ten kgs of sugar brought by her son, she allegedly used abusive language and physically assaulted her, which led to Bhandari striking her with a baton. Complaints have been received regarding police beating a citizen, and the incident will be investigated. SP Khagendra Chand of the Armed Police Force, Shaileshwari, stated that departmental action will be taken against the involved officers, and discussions are ongoing with both parties.

The victim received medical treatment at Mahakali Provincial Hospital on 21 September.
