Wife Killed for Dowry, Accused Arrested

Police have arrested Mukesh Thakur, 29, and Rupesh Thakur, 27, on June 27, 2021, on the charge of killing Sujita Thakur, 26, of Loharpatti Municipality-7. Sujita was the wife of Mukesh and the accused have been alleged of killing her for insufficient dowry.

According to the police, another accused of the incident, Patiram Thakur, the father-in-law of the deceased has been absconding after the incident.

Sujita had been missing since June 3, 2021, and her dead body was found buried in a field on June 27.

Sujita had been missing for a long time and her family has alleged her husband’s family for her death. Mukesh’s family had been claiming that Sujita had eloped with someone.

Police found the body buried in the field of the Thakur family which is about a kilometre away from the house. Locals have alleged that Thakur family members had tried to kill Sujita a few years ago as well.

Police found Sujita’s body with the help of her relatives. Some people of the village had informed Sujita’s father Kameshwor Pandey that the body may have been buried after seeing a hole dug in the field. Pandey said that they had buried his daughter’s body and sowed paddy on it.

The body was found by the police while digging at the suspicious area after the request of her relatives. It was found buried in a 6-foot below the surface.

The body was brought to Jaleshwar Hospital for post-mortem. DSP Prakash Bista of the District Police Office Mahottari said that the body could be sent elsewhere for further investigation.

The victim’s family had gone to file a complaint at the District Police Office on June 21 but the SP had denied filing it after which they appealed the Women’s Cell for help, informed Kameshwor Pandey.

He complained that his daughter was missing and the police had not shown any interest in investigating regarding the incident. The deceased has a nine-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son.
