Wages of Workers Remains Unpaid for Over a Year
The workers employed under a project in Tripurasundari Municipality have complained that they have not received their wages even for a year.
As part of the tourism promotion program in Tripurasundari Bhagwati Temple, located in Tripurasundari Municipality-1, the workers worked on the water supply channel, and wall construction project. A year has passed since the completion of the project, and they haven’t been paid.
Bhuvansin Kathayat, the husband of Dhanalakshmi Kathayat, the treasurer of the Planning and Building Consumer Committee, still has to pay nearly 9 lakh rupees to the workers despite taking back payment of 48 lakh rupees for the scheme. Kesav Budhathoki, the contractor who took charge of the work, said that he had completed the project by the end of June 2021, even though a year had passed, he had not received the money as per the agreement.
He said that even after trying to contact him many times, Bhuwansin was unavailable. He filed a petition in the district administration office on 6 March 2023, requesting necessary action to recover the amount. Another worker, Nainamati Budha, said that 24 people, including himself, have not received their wages.
Dilmaya Bista, Chairman of the Consumer Committee, said she was out of the district and had left a signed check at the office.
Chief District Officer Bhumishwar Pokhrel said that they have received complaints about unpaid wages, and he will discuss the matter and try to resolve this issue.
