Victim’s Witnesses Changed in Court During Trial

The District Court Sindhuli has changed the witness for giving their statement in the July 11, 2022.

The court has changed the witness during trial for the case of attempt to rape attempt and abuse.

The victim complained that her witnesses have been changed by the police for the trial on July 11. Her initial witnesses were Laxmi Thapa and Suman Chaudhary.

According to the victim, the changed witnesses are related to the accused.

The police informed that the witnesses were the accused Nima Lama’s sister-in-law Sukmaya Lamichhane, neighbour Sumsher Pariyar and Nirmaya Giri.

The victim told INSEC representative that this was unfair to her as the police changed the witness for giving the statement in court. She also requested all the authorities to take initiative for providing justice.

Assistant Sub-inspector Bilraj Kandel of the district court Sindhuli said that he wasn’t aware of this issue and that he will look into this matter.

The victim registered her complaint on January 29, 2022, in the District Police Office of Sindhuli accusing Nima Lama, 45, of the attempt to rape.

The victim shared that the accused even sabotaged her scooter while she was on her way to register her complaint and rubbed shoot on her face in front of the police.

The victim wanted to register her complaint against accused Lama for rape attempt and misbehaviour on February 3, 2022, in the district court however, the officers were not willing to file the complaint.

After the police refused to take her complaint, the victim appealed with National Women Commission, the police headquarters, and the National Human Rights Commission on February 4 after which her complaint was registered.
