Victim of Social Exclusion Appeals INSEC And National Human Rights Commission To Initiate Justice

  December 29, 2023 By: INSEC

37-year-old Suntali Ghimire from Baiteshwar Village-6, Ghimiretar, requested initiation from the National Human Rights Commission and INSEC for justice. She filed a complaint with the District Police Office regarding her social exclusion by a group of local priests, including Madhav Ghimire. However, the complaint was not registered. The victim stated that when she reported the social exclusion by a group that prevented her from participating in the worship ceremony on December 25, the District Police Office refused to register her complaint.

Minprasad Ghimire, the husband of the victim, was remanded to pre-trial detention by the district court on March 12 for the alleged crime of raping a 40-year-old woman on February 14. The society excluded her from participating in worship activities due to the same reason. Before this, on May 4, 2023, while she was carrying the necessary materials to burn incense in the barn, she was struck on the face with a hot pot, causing injuries to her face. In this matter, the police reached an agreement wherein Ghimire’s family who assaulted her agreed to cover the medical expenses of the victim following the incident where she was injured. However, after facing exclusion from worship again, the victim filed a complaint with the police.

The victim shared details about the problem when the INSEC District Representative, National Human Rights Officer Krishna Prasad Mishra, and the attached team of Loknath Ghimire were monitoring the situation of the human rights violation incident in Dolakha on December 28.

Loknath Ghimire, the Administration Chief of the National Human Rights Commission, Bagmati Province Office, has stated that the District Police Office has been directed to thoroughly investigate the incident in a serious manner. The victim has requested the investigation team of the commission to register the complaint.
