Verdict Against Accused In Case Of Accusation of Witchcraft

The Nuwakot District Court has decided to adjourn the case against the accused in the case of accusing 40-year-old Jamuna Tamang of Dupcheshwar Rural Municipality-1 of being a witch.

As all the four accused involved in the incident are absconding, a decision has been reached to adjourn the proceedings.Registrar Khem Kumari Basnet informed INSEC that the bench of honorable Judge Madan Bahadur Dhami on November 9 decided to postpone the case.

Victim filed a complaint at the District Police Office on July 31, 2022 against Surya Bahadur Tamang, 27, Mohansingh Tamang, 50,  Sancha Tamang, 45, Nema Lama, 50, and Arjun Tamang, 32, all of Dupcheshwar Rural Municipality-1,  for accusing her of witchcraft on July 25, 2022.

The case was officially registered in the District Court on October 21, 2022, following the initiation by the District Public Prosecutor’s Office.

District Attorney Krishna Bahadur Oli explained that despite the decision to adjourn the case due to the absconding status of the accused, there is a provision to ascertain appropriate penalties once they are arrested.
