Update of May 8 Regarding COVID-19 Infection

The number of COVID-19 infected people has reached 385,890 after additional 8,287 new cases were detected positive in Nepal on May 8, 2021. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 298,765 of the total infected have recovered and the rate of recovery has reached 77.4% along with the 3,370 latest recovered.

According to the Ministry, 17,315 swab tests were conducted in the past 24 hours. Out of the total number of tests conducted on May 8, 48% were diagnosed positive and overall there were 14.7% people diagnosed positive till now. On May 8, 756 people below the age of 19 were diagnosed positive for COVID-19.

Till now, the death toll has reached 3,632. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 56 people died on May 8. There are 83,493 in isolation. There are more than 500 active cases in Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa, Dhanusha, Parsa, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Chitwan, Kavrepalanchowk, Makwanpur, Kaski, Dang, Rupandehi, Banke, Palpa, Bardiya, Kapilbastu, Surkhet, and Kailali

The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued complete and partial prohibition in 63 districts.

According to Dhanusha Representative Dipendra Prasad Singh, due to lack of ventilator in the Provincial Hospital of Janakpur, there is a problem in the treatment of COVID patients. The Ministry of Social Development of Province 2 has started the work of installing eight new ventilators from May 7, 2021. Medical Superintendent of the Provincial Hospital, Janakpur, Dr. Pramod Yadav informed that eight new ventilators have been installed in the Provincial Hospital, Janakpur. The hospital administration is confident that the patients will not be forced to move to other places after the new ventilator becomes operational in the hospital.
