Update of May 24 Regarding COVID-19 Infection
The number of COVID-19 infected people has reached 520,461 after additional 7,220 new cases were detected positive in Nepal on May 24, 2021. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 398,483 of the total infected have recovered, and the recovery rate has reached 76.6% along with the 7,135 latest recovered.
According to the Ministry, 19,846 swab tests were conducted in the past 24 hours. Out of the total number of tests conducted on May 24, 36% were diagnosed positive and overall there were 17.7% people diagnosed positive till now. On May 24, 680 people below the age of 19 were diagnosed positive for COVID-19.
Till now, the death toll has reached 6,531 According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 185 people died on May 24. There are 115,447 in isolation. There are more than 500 active cases in Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa, Rautahat, Dhanusha, Parsa, Mahottari, Bara, Saptari, Siraha, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Chitwan, Kavrepalanchowk, Makwanpur, Dhading, Nuwakot, Sindhupalchowk, Sindhuli, Ramechhap, Kaski, Nawalparasi East, Gorkha, Tanahu, Syangja, Myagdi, Dang, Rupandehi, Banke, Palpa, Bardiya, Kapilbastu, Arghakhanchi, Nawalparasi West, Surkhet, Salyan, Dailekh, Dadeldhura, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Baitadi, Doti and Achham.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 75 districts have been following complete or partial prohibition till May 24, 2021, no further information have been received later.
In Province 1,
The period of the prohibition order has been extended in Morang. A meeting of the District Covid Crisis Management Centre (DCCMC) held on May 24, 2021, extended the prohibition till May 31. INSEC Panchthar has provided assistance of Rs. 7,678 for the purchase of an oxygen concentrator for those infected with Covid-19. In Sunsari, Bhokraha Narasimha Municipality has sealed three wards on May 24 due to the increase in covid infection and death of some people.
In Province 2,
A meeting of the District Covid-19 Crisis Management Centre in Dhanusha on May 24 has decided to extend the time limit of the district-wide prohibition order for seven days. Chief District Officer Bandhu Prasad Bastola said that it has been decided to tighten the prohibition order issued in Dhanusha as the infection rate of the new variant of Covid is still the same and the death rate has also increased.
In Bagmati Province,
In Kavre, the Mandandeupur municipality has been sealed due to the increase in Covid-19 infection. All areas of the city have been sealed from May 26 to June 4. Mayor Tok Bahadur Waiba said that all the shops and businesses except the hospitals and pharmacies would be closed.
In Gandaki Province,
Rupa rural municipality, Kaski, has been sealed due to the increase in the number of Covid-19 infected people. According to Rupa Rural Municipality Chairperson Nawaraj Ojha, the rural municipality has been sealed from May 24 due to the increasing number of covid infected people in different places of Ward No. 1, Ward No. 3 and Ward No. 5. Apart from this, management of medicines in all the health institutions within the rural municipality, management of stretchers in the toll roads of all the wards, and ayurvedic medicine has been managed by reaching the homes of the patients in home isolation, he said.
The chairperson of Fedikhola Rural Municipality-4, Madhav Prasad Sharma Subedi has issued a notice on May 24 mentioning that all the shops in the ward except the grocery store will be closed till May 29 due to the increase in covid infection in the ward.
In Lumbini Province,
According to Chief District Officer Shiva Ram Gela, the fifth meeting of the Covid-19 District Crisis Management Centre of Banke District extended the fifth prohibition on May 24 as the risk of covid infection is still high in the district. The Buddhabhumi Municipality in Kapilbastu has decided to provide Rs. 20,000 for the needy, poor and helpless families who died due to Covid-19. In Bardiya, a meeting of the Covid-19 District Crisis Management Centre has extended the prohibition as the number of Covid infected is increasing.
In Sudur Paschim Province,
In Darchula, Naugad, Apihimal, Marma and Duhun have started testing and distributing medicines to the patients after reaching the community level. In Achham, it has been decided to tighten the prohibition order and take action in case of violation of the prohibition order to make the prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19 integrated and systematic. In Dadeldhura, the public administration services other than emergency services have been suspended till further orders due to the rapid spread of the virus in the district, according to the District Administration Office, Dadeldhura.
