Update of December 5 Regarding COVID-19 Infection

The number of COVID-19 infected people has reached 239,885 after additional 1,024 new cases were detected positive in Nepal on December 5, 2020. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 34.5% of the COVID-19 infected patients are females and 224,053 of the total infected have recovered. On December 5, the rate of recovery reached 93.4% along with the 2,206 latest recovered. The ministry reported that 14,255 people are being treated. Out of which, 9,263 are in home isolation, 312 are being treated in ICU, and 45 are being treated with the support of the ventilators. Till now, the death toll has reached 1,577. According to the Ministry, 6,074 swab tests were conducted in the past 24 hours. There aren’t any active cases in Manang and Dolpa while Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Jhapa, Morang, and Kaski, have more than 500 active cases.

In Gandaki Province,

According to Baglung Representative Sirjana Pant, it has been decided to close Kushmisera Market for one week from December 5 after the community level including the employees of Jamini Municipality of Baglung showed COVID-19 infection. It was decided to lock the non-essential services of the municipality along with the financial institutions after the transition of the bank employees including the municipality. It has been decided to close the school and the market area for another week. He said that after discussions with political parties, local leaders, police and health workers on December 5, it was decided to stop all activities in the municipality and urban areas for a week.
