Update of August 18 Regarding COVID-19 Infection

The number of COVID-19 infected people reached 994,613 after 224 additional new cases on August 18, 2022. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 977,358 of the total infected have recovered, and the recovery rate has reached 98.3% along with the 421 latest recovered. There are 5,265 active infected cases at present.

According to the Ministry, 2,082 swabs were collected for PCR tests in the past 24 hours. Till now, the death toll has reached 11,990 According to the Ministry of Health and Population, no deaths were recorded. On August 18, 2,848 people were tested through the antigen process and 318 were diagnosed positive with COVID-19. Till date, 148,461 people have been diagnosed positive with the antigen method. Till August 18, 21,212,992 people have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to Gorkha representative Hariram Uprety, five Bhimsen Thapa Rural Municipality schools have been closed due to the increase in COVID-19 infection. Dullab Primary School Gyampeshal, Kankamana Basic School, Chandeshwari Primary School, Bindravati Primary School Masel and Navjagriti Chandi Primary School Ashrang of Ward No. 6 of Bhimsen Thapa Rural Municipality-1 have been closed. Bhesraj Khanal, head of the health branch of Bhimsen Thapa Rural Municipality, said that during the tests conducted on 243 students of five schools, 38 people were found to be infected with Covid-19. Fourteen students in Dullab, seven in Bindravati, two in Kanakamna, five in Chandeshwaravi and 10 in Navajagruti have been infected with Covid-19. He said that after showing the common cold symptoms, the infection was detected when he was tested for Covid. The school management committee decided to close the school.
