Update of August 10 Regarding Corona Virus Infection
On August 10, an additional 330 cases were diagnosed with which there are now 23,310 corona virus-infected people in Nepal. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 16,493 have been discharged after recovery. On August 10, 140 were discharged. At present, there are 6,738 people being treated in different hospitals nationwide. Out of the total infected, 70.8% have recovered. Till now, the death toll has reached 80. According to the Ministry, in the past 24 hours, 8,432 swabs were tested. Out of the total number of infected people, 16% which is 3,716 are females and 84% which is 19,594 are males.
The municipalities of Kathmandu valley have decided to shut down all its services excluding the extremely necessary ones for 15 days. It was decided on August 10, 2020 by the ‘Municipality Mayor Forum’.
Provincial Reports
In Province 1
According to the District Representative of Morang, Netra Prasad Adhikari, one of the judge of the District Court was diagnosed with corona virus infection after which all the services of the court have been stopped from August 10 to 12.
According to the District Representative of Sunsari, Jaya Krishna Yadav, the District Administrative Office has declared restraining order in all the sector of the district till August 16.
In Province 2, till August 10, 2020, there are 6,534 corona infected people diagnosed in the province out of which 3,357 have been recovered after treatment and 3,144 are being treated. Till August 10, 33 have died due to corona.
According to the District Representative of Saptari, Manohar Kumar Pokharel, the Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality-2 has set up its own isolation centre to manage the spread of coronavirus in Launiya. Ananda Thakur, administrative officer and information officer at the District Administration Office, Saptari, said that there is a problem in the management of the infected people as the federal and state governments have been shifting the plan of making isolation in Tilathi Koiladi rural municipality. A team led by Ward Chairperson Khagendra Mandal has decided to spread awareness by miking and take financial action against those who do not follow the health norms.
According to the District Representative of Siraha, Durga Pariyar, Chief District Officer of Siraha, Pradip Raj Kandel, said that he had only 300 VTM kits in the district and as this quantity was insufficient which has caused shortage. He said this has caused the problem in rapid corona testing and contact tracing.
Likewise, Siraha Municipality and Dhangadhimai Municipality, in coordination with the District Administration Office, have called for a lockdown from 12 noon of August 9 to August 16 to control the spread of corona at the community level, said Asheshwar Yadav, Chief of Siraha Municipality.
According to the District Representative of Dhanusha, Dipendra Prasad Singh, a 45-year-old man of Mithila Bihari Municipality-5 has been confirmed dead due to coronavirus infection. Surendra Sah, a local, told INSEC representative that he died on the way to Janakpur for treatment after he was found to have respiratory problems at 7 am on August 9. After he was confirmed of having coronavirus, people who attended his cremation ceremony were instruction to remain in-home quarantine. A team of three including Social Development Minister Nawal Kishore Sah, chief attorney Dipendra Jha led by the chief minister of Province 2, Lal Babu Yadav met the Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokharel, Health and Population Minister Bhanubhakta Jha and Labor Minister Rameshwar Raya and requested to declare a special relief package for the control of coronavirus. During a meeting with the Chief Minister’s team, Deputy Prime Minister Pokharel assured to immediately manage a 500-bed isolation room for COVID treatment at Birgunj National Medical College.
According to the District Representative of Mahottari, Ajay Kumar Sah, he Ram Gopal municipality has sealed the primary health centre from August 10 after the corona infection was confirmed in the technical health workers working at the primary health centre in the municipality.
According to the District Representative of Sarlahi, Budhan Sah, according to Homnath Subedi, Chief Administrative Officer of Malangwa Municipality, 21 people, including two engineers, have been infected with the coronavirus. Chief Administrative Officer Subedi said that both the engineers infected with Corona were immediately asked to stay isolated in their respective homes.
According to the District Representative of Bara, Bhola Nath Paudel, A meeting chaired by Mayor Krishna Poudel decided to set up a 500-bed isolation centre in Jitpur Simara sub-metropolitan on July 9 as Covid-19 disease has entered the community, said the provincial assembly member Sundar Bishwakarma. Chief District Officer Rudra Prasad Pandit said that it has been decided to upgrade the quarantine level at Jitpur Simra Sub-metropolitan-2 and establish a 100-bed isolation centre at the health training centre at Pathalaiya of the same Simra Sub-metropolitan-1.
According to the District Representative of Parsa, Krishna Chandra Lamichhane, Police have arrested the student leaders involved in protesting at the main gate of the District Administration Office, Parsa, saying that the local administration has not been able to take action against the recent increase in deaths due to the refusal of hospitals to admit patients in Birgunj.
In Bagmati Province, a total of 1,824 people have been infected with the coronavirus in this province till date and on August 10 there were 36 in Kathmandu, four in Bhaktapur, four in Lalitpur, three in Nuwakot, one each in Chitwan, Ramechhap and Sindhupalchowk. Out of the total, 603 have recovered after treatment and 1,210 are being treated at different hospitals and isolation centres in the province. There have been 11 deaths in the province due to the disease. Meanwhile, on August 9, 23 people were diagnosed with the disease in Makwapur after which prohibitory order has been launched at the entry point of the main highways of Hetauda municipality and Manahari rural municipality.
In Gandaki Province,
According to the District Representative of Tanahu, Prakash Chandra Bhattarai, a local was tested positive at Bhanu municipality-1 on August 8 during the sample PCR test after which all the wards of the municipality has been shut down for a week.
In Province 5,
According to the District Representative of Kapilvastu, Parbati Acharya, Chief District Officer Dirgha Narayan Poudel informed that a meeting of the DCCMC held at the District Administration Office on August 10 decided to shut down all services except emergency services from August 11 to prevent the situation from escalating.
In Karnali Province,
According to the District Representative of Dailekh, Amar Sunar, the Dailekh branch of Rashtriya Banijya Bank and the Women and Children’s Service Centre and one NGO named Social Service Center (SOSEC) have suspended their services after tests at the Corona Laboratory confirmed corona infection in their employees.
