Update of 29 July Regarding Corona Virus Infection

On 29 July 2020, additional 210 cases were diagnosed with which there are now 19,273 corona virus infected people in Nepal. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 14,021 have been discharged after recovery. On 29 July, 146 were discharged. At present, there are 5,203 people being treated in different hospitals nationwide. Out of the total infected, 72.8% have recovered. On 29 July, additional one corona patient died with which the death toll has reached 52. According to the Ministry, 6,037 swabs were tested.

Provincial Report

In Province 1,

According to the District Representative of Morang, Netra Prasad Adhikari, a 58-year-old man has died of corona virus infection on 29 July. According to the Ministry of Social Development, a 45-year-old man of Sunvarshi Municipality-8 has died at BP Koirala Corona Hospital. He had returned from India 12 days ago and was living in a quarantine built by the Sunvarshi Municipality. He was admitted to Golden Hospital, Biratnagar on 28 July after he was diagnosed with chest problems. The coronavirus infection was confirmed when Koshi Hospital collected his swab. The patient was referred to BP Hospital by Koshi Hospital on 29 July after his health became critical. According to the Ministry of Social Development, the first death in Province 1 was due to the corona virus.

Province 2,

According to the District Representative of Saptari, Mohan Kumar Pokharel, the Shambhu Nath Municipality has decided to suspend operations from 29 July to reduce the outbreak of the corona virus. Mayor Yogendra Prasad Chaudhary has issued a statement on 29 July stating that the public service from the municipality and ward office will be shut down from 30 July.

According to the District Representative of Mahottari, Ajay Kumar Sah, ten Nepali soldiers and two teachers from Mahottari who were deployed in the management of the bodies of those who died from corona and isolation have been infected with corona. According to Girendra Kumar Jha, COVID-19 Focal Person of the Health Office, Mahottari, on 29 July, the last PCR report showed corona infection in 13 people. Jha informed there were 10 soldiers, two teachers and one civilian.

According to the District Representative of Dhanusha, Dipendra Prasad Singh, there is a scarcity of ventilators and ICUs in Province 2 for the treatment of critically ill patients infected with the corona virus, informed Vijay Jha, Deputy Director of the Health Directorate in Province 2. Of the eight districts in Province 2, only governmental hospitals in Birgunj of Parsa, Janakpur of Dhanusha and Rajbiraj of Saptari have ventilators.

According to the District Representative of Parsa, Krishna Chandra Lamichhane, a 71-year-old man and a 68-year-old man died in Birgunj on 29 July after being infected with the corona virus, informed Dr. Asraf Hussain, focal person at the National Medical College.
