Update of 23 May Regarding Corona Virus Infection
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, there are 584 cases of corona virus infection till 23 May 2020. The infection has been seen in 41 districts of the country. Till date, there has been three deaths due to coronavirus infection. From Province 1- Udaypur, Khotang, Jhapa, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Sunsari and Mornag, from Province 2- Siraha, Saptari, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara and Parsa have corona virus infected people. Likewise, from Bagmati Province- Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavrepalanchowk, Chitwan, Dhading, Makwanour, Ramechhap, Sibdhupalchowk and Sindhuli and from Gandaki Province- Nawalparasi East, Baglung and Lamjung have corona virus infected people. From Province 5- Kapilbastu, Nawalparasi West, Bardiya, Banke, Rupandehi, Dang and Gulmi has coronavirus infected people. In Karnali- Dailekh and Surkhet has coronavirus infection cases and in Sudurpaschim, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Dadeldhura and Baitadi has the case of coronavirus.
Provincial Reports
In Province 1, there are 83 cases of corona virus infection. On 23 May, one more case was added with which there are 36 cases in Jhapa. Out of the 83 patients, 26 have been discharged after recovery. Jhapa’s newly established Mechi Hospital will be developed as corona specialized hospital. According to the Provincial Assembly Member, Basanta Baniya the hospital will be equipped with materials and human resource necessary for corona treatment. He also informed that the PCR examining laboratory will be established at the Red Cross Society’s training hall.
In Province 2, on 23 May, Sarlahi district diagnosed 13 and Bara diagnosed one case of coronavirus infection. In Mahottari Distrcit’s Gaushala Municipality’s Nigaul Secondary School, the 25 people staying there have been starving from the past 24 hours. The people of the quarantine blame the municipality for such condition. These people have returned from India’s Chennai, Hariyana and Chandigad and they complain of not having access to hot water and fan. Nine people being treated at Birgunj’s Narayani Hospital Have been discharged on 23 May.
In Bagmati Province, there has been 21,712 RDT and 7,775 PCR. Out of them, 32 were diagnosed with coronavirus infection and one has died. Nine of them have been discharged after recovery. There are 367 people staying in the quarantine. There are 49 people being treated in isolation.
In Gandaki Province, there have been 1,818 swab tests and 7,701 RDT. The heath workers delegated at Rupa rural municipality of Kaski were provided life insurance worth one million. According to the family of a three-year-old boy of Lamjung living in Kathmandu was diagnosed with corona yet the government has not coordinated with his family.
In Province 5, there are 278 people suffering from coronavirus infection till date. This province has the highest number of infection diagnosed till now. Almost 800 people have entered Nepal through Nepalgunj- Rupadiha border and 400 have entered India on 23 May. The locals of Kotahimai Rural Municipality-6 protested on 23 May for the proper management of the quarantine of Bogadi Secondary School. They also protested for the proper management of the quarantines in Marchwari area. After Kapilbastu’s people’s representative and journalist were diagnosed positive with the virus, the locals are terrified.
In Karnali Province, three people were diagnosed positive with the virus on 23 May. Two of them is from Barahatal rural municipality and one is from Chaukune rural municipality. With this, there are four cases of coronavirus in the province.
In Sudur Paschim Province, on 23 May, four additional cases were diagnosed. All four of them are men of age 20, 22 and 27. After two of the labourers coming to K.I Singh rural municipality from different districts were diagnosed positive in their RDT, their swabs have been collected for test. Three corona patients of Kailali district diagnosed on 22 May are kept in Tikapur Hospital’s isolation. After a person coming to Dadeldhura Hospital for checkup was resulted positive with corona virus, seven of them including four doctors were kept in quarantine. With the increasing flow of people entering from India, there has been lack of RDT and VTM kits for examining 44 people on 23 May.
