Update of 16 May Regarding Corona Virus Infection

The Ministry of Health and Population has confirmed death of a 29-year-old woman due to corona virus infection. The woman is from Sindhupalchowk District’s Barhabise Municipality-9 Ramche. According to the Ministry, she lost her life during treatment on 15 May 2020. The woman had given birth at TU Teaching Hospital on 5 May 2020 with a normal delivery. She was discharged on 7 May 2020. The woman was brought to Dhulikhel Hospital after getting fever, cough, and respiration problem. She died on 15 May.

There are 281 cases of corona virus infection in Nepal. All of them are in contact of the health workers. There was a first case diagnosed in Siraha. With this, out of 21districts in Terai, 19 districts have already been infected with the virus. Morang and Sunsari are the only districts remaining. All eight districts of Province 2 have cases of corona virus infection. Out of the infected cases, 36 have recovered.

In Province 1,

There is 5,973 bedded quarantine in this Province 1. There are 170 females and 535 males staying in quarantine. There are 8,252 people in home quarantine.

In Province 2, there are six new cases of corona in Province 2 on 16 May.

There is 4,576 bedded quarantine in this Province 2. There are 2,382 staying in quarantine. There are 4,768 people in home quarantine. There are 106 people being treated in isolation ward.

In Bagmati Province, in Lalitpur’s Konjyosom and Mahakal Rural Municipality and Lalitpur Metropolitan, 2/2 cases were tested positive in RDT on 16 May. Their swabs have been taken for test at Teku Hospital. There are 16 people being treated at Patan Hospital being suspected for covid-19 on 16 May. Four people diagnosed with covid-19 have been admitted in the ICU and being treated.

In Kathmandu, 31 employees of garbage management have tested positive in their RDT. There were 16 men and 15 women giving the test. This also includes vehicle drivers. A 52-year-old man from Bhaktapur’s Chyamasingh was tested positive in his RDT and his swab has been taken for PCR.

In Gandaki Province,

  • Number of RDT till date: 6,932

To prevent covid-19 from entering, Gorkha district has been following strict rule. The borders have been sealed. Anyone entering Gorkha will directly be taken to stay in quarantine. Lamjung district has been completely sealed from 16 May to 18 May.

In Province 5, following is the districts’ update on number of people suffering from Covid-19:

  • Nawalparasi West: 1
  • Bardiya: 2
  • Dang: 3

People employed in different parts of India have been returning through hidden borders with the fear of increase in corona virus cases. All the borders around Lalpur village have been sealed.

In Karnali Province, since many districts are having corona virus infection, District Administration Office Kalikot has tightened the lockdown. District Health Office of Rukum (West) has bought VTM on their own since the lack of testing kit was halting the examination. Due to the lockdown, 28 people stuck at Rupaidiha from 45 days have been escorted back to the district  in coordination with Banke District Administration Office. Likewise, 14 people were brought back to Jajarkot from Rupaidiha and kept in quarantine.

In Sudur Paschim Province, 146 people kept in isolation of 15 different hospitals in suspect of corona virus have been discharged after their PCR resulted negative. Doti District Administrative Office has dismissed all the passes to reduce the risk of corona virus. Out of 1,365 people returning from Indian border of Jhulaghat, 1,117 have returned from the quarantine after their RDT were tested. Still, 248 people are remaining due to lack of RDT test kit.
