Police arrested 39-year-old Sambar Bahadur Tamang of Nuwakot, Dupcheswor Rural Municipality-6 and 33-year-old Indira Katwal of Tadi Rural Municipality-2 on 10 June for the charge of trafficking a 14-year-old minor.

The accused were arrested from Chapagaon, Lalitpur. According to the plan, they intended to take the victim to Raxaul in India, using the Kanti Highway through Hetauda and Birgunj. This was done under the false pretense of offering the victim employment at their hotel in Pokhara.

SP Nareshraj Subedi of the Lalitpur Police reported that both accused individuals were arrested promptly after the team of Anti Human Trafficking Bureau informed them that the accused had brought the victim from Kathmandu to Lalitpur. SP Subedi further informed that the Lalitpur District Court extended the deadline by five days on June 10, and further investigation regarding the human trafficking case is ongoing.

Likewise, SP Gyanendra Phuyal of the Anti Human Trafficking Bureau reported that the accused, Sambar Bahadur, had previously served 10 years in prison for a human trafficking case and was released in May 2023.

The health examination of the victim was done on June 10 at the Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital, Thapathali.
