The by-election’s Code of Conduct enforced from 10 April (inclusive of the Code of Conduct).

For the upcoming by-elections scheduled for April 27, 2024, the Election Code of Conduct has been enforced across the districts of Ilam and Bajhang. The Election Commission has announced the implementation of independent, impartial, and fear-free environment for the upcoming by-elections in Province Assembly Election Area Number 2 for Ilam and Number 1 for Bajhang, effective since April 10, 2024.

According to the spokesperson of the Election Commission, Shaligram Poudel, the Election Code of Conduct, enforced since April 10, 2024, will remain applicable until the completion of the voting process. The voting schedule has been determined from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM on April 27, 2024.

Regarding the general elections held on November 20, 2022, after the demise of Nepali Congress leader Prithvi Bahadur Singh due to a car accident on June 20, 2023, following the death of Suvas Chandra Nemwang, a leader of the Nepal Communist Party (Unified Socialist) elected from Ilam constituency number 2 on September 11, 2023, a by-election is underway to fill the vacant positions in Bajhang constituency number 1.

In Ilam, there are 12 political parties nominating 12 candidates, including 8 independents, making a total of 20 candidates. Similarly, in Bajhang, there are 12 political parties nominating 12 candidates, with 8 independents, totaling 20 candidates in the electoral arena. All candidates were allocated election symbols on April 10.

Since the implementation of the Election Code of Conduct on April 10, 2024, no public resources, facilities, or property can be used in favor of or against any party or candidate in Ilam constituency number 2 and Bajhang constituency number 1. Governmental, public, or educational institutions are also barred from engaging in election-related campaigns or propaganda.
