Teacher Accused of Sexual Abuse Arrested
A team of Gaushala Police Circle has arrested Janardan Adhikari, 51, a teacher at St. Lawrence College, Kathmandu, on May 24 on the charge of sexually abusing a student.
Students and parents of the college had staged a sit-in protest in front of Gaushala Police Circle on the morning of May 24 after the college administration did not take action against the teacher. Adhikari , the college’s management faculty coordinator and a social science teacher, had repeatedly sexually abused female students in the college.
During the protest, the students pelted stones and smashed the windows of the college building in rage.
Three female students lodged a complaint at the Metropolitan Police Circle Gaushala on May 24 after the students started protesting.
DSP Keshav Bhattarai told INSEC that the police arrested the accused teacher from the Chabahil-based college on the basis of the same complaint. He further emphasized that the case was registered in the district court on May 24 against the accused with the help of the District Attorney’s Office.
The district court has allocated seven days for investigation and has detained the accused.
The health examination of the victim girls was conducted at the Prasuti Ghriha in Thapathali on May 24.
