Supreme Court Issues Show Cause Order Against President’s Decision
The Supreme Court has issued a show cause order to the government in a writ against President Ramchandra Poudel’s decision to grant amnesty to Resham Chaudhary, who was convicted in the Tikapur incident.
Sharda Kadayat, the wife of Inspector Keshav Bohora, who was killed during the Tharuhat movement in Tikapur on August 24, 2015, filed a writ petition filed in the Supreme Court on May 39, 2023, against President for granting amnesty to those involved in serious human rights violations. The court issued a show cause order on June 6.
On the recommendation of the government, President Ramchandra Paudel granted amnesty to Chaudhary, who was found guilty in the Tikapur incident by the District Court, High Court, and Supreme Court, on the occasion of Republic Day on May 29, 2023.
The court prioritized the case filed by the victim’s family in the Supreme Court.
