Stress given to include Human Rights Education in School

The interaction program between stakeholders and parliamentarians on ending child marriage stressed that there must be Human Rights education in the schools.

Ram Hari Subedi, parliamentarian and member of National forum Nepal said that it is essential and compulsory to provide human rights education to the students to end child marriage.

Former chairperson Parmananda Bhatta of District Development Committee said that the minimization of child marriage should not only be focused on papers but in the villages.

The local women complained that they are deprived of selecting their rights . The program was organized by Parliamentarian’s National Forum for Population and development on December 31.

As per various data collected, most of the children in this district leaves school after getting married in early age. The data shows that there are 68 percent child marriage in the district.

In one of the school located at Salena VDC, three children were married in the month of November.

In the interaction program, the participating parliamentarian and local stakeholders stressed on giving human rights education to the students in school level.

In Nepal, 37 percent of child marriage are under 18 years of age and 10 percent of child marriage are under 15 years of age as per the data.
