Stress Given On continuous Campaign For the Approval of Rome Statute
The participants in a program organized jointly by INSEC and Jury Nepal on December 19 in Lalitpur stressed that it is important to continue campaign to get approval on International Criminal Court Rome Statute.
Speaking at the program, Parliamentarian and senior advocate Radheshyam Adhikari said that the political party which has belief in violence can only be against the approval of Rome Statute. He added that such discussion makes those believers to be more aware.
Chairperson Madhav Paudel of Nepal Law Commission said that approval of Rome Statute is important to improve legal system of the country as the Criminal justice administration of Nepal is under international norms.
He added that the image of the country will be good in an international arena if the Statute is approved by ending the impunity culture. The awareness is essential among the political parties for its approval.
INSEC chairperson Subodh Raj Pyakurel speaking at the program said that the continuous campaign is equally essential for the approval of Rome Statute. Chairperson Charan Prasai of Accountability Watch Committee stressed the necessity of approval of Rome Statute to end impunity in the country.
Advocate Raju Chapagain had presented the brief report on Nepal’s constitution , criminal law and pending bills in context of Rome Statute.
