Storm Damaging School Roof, Disrupted Education for a Week

The educational activities at Kanchanjungha Basic School in Huma of Tripurasundari Municipality-11 have been disrupted due to the storm that blew the school’s roof off.

Sanraj Pun Magar, an 11-year-old, class five student expressed that he and his friends are compelled to study in an open ground after the wind blew the roof off on May 1. Similarly, Kalpana Pun,11, another student studying in class 5 in the same school, said that the roof of the school building had not been repaired for a week and they had  to study outside in the heat.

Krishna Mahtara, the Principal said that they are currently conducting classes in open ground since there is no alternative building in the school with students studying up to class five. He expressed his concern that keeping the students in an open ground will affect their health.

Likewise, Chandrarup Dasal, the Ward Chairperson of Tripurasundari Municipality-11, said that the building could not be repaired immediately as there is a lack of budget in the Ward Office. He further added that the ward office has taken initiatives with the Municipality to repair the building. However, they have no idea how much time it will take to repair it.

Bhim Bahadur Thapa, Chief of Education Branch of Tripurasundari Municipality, said that they are aware about the problem caused by the storm and have already conducted a monitoring by sending a team including technicians. Furthermore, they’re arranging corrugated zinc roofing as an immediate solution and will prioritize the construction of school buildings in the coming financial year.
