State Minister of Lumbini Province Arrested for Beating a Woman and a Child

State Minister of Health and Population of Lumbini Province, Bimala Oli, 31, of Tulsipur Submetropolitan-6, has been arrested on accusation of misbehaving and beating Meena Basnet, 27, and five-year-old Anjila Basnet, of Tulsipur Sub-metropolitan-5. She was arrested on June 14, 2022.

The victim lodged a complaint at the Area Police Office on June 14 alleging that the accused had forcibly entered their house and assaulted them.

According to the victim, the accused came from a government vehicle (Lu 1 Jha 537) and threatened Meena’s husband Ekraj Basnet that she was already married to him.

Meena and Angela were treated at Rapti Provincial Hospital, Tulsipur on June 14.

According to SP Suresh Kafle of the District Police Office, Ghorahi was brought to the District Police Office on June 13 after locals surrounded the Area Police Office, Tulsipur and chanted slogans demanding action against Minister of State Oli for his involvement in the beating.

After the locals surrounded the Area Police Office, Tulsipur and protested demanding action against Minister of State Oli for her involvement in the beating and assault, the police brought her to the District Police Office, Ghorahi on June 14 for further investigation.

Oli was elected as a provincial assembly member from the then Nepal Communist Party (NCP) on November 30, 2019, during a by-election after she was given the party ticket following the demise of her husband Uttar Kumar Oli. Uttar Kumar, an elected lawmaker from the CPN-UML, had died in a car accident.
