Stakeholders criticizes local level for charging excessive fees to NGOs

The decision made by various Rural Municipality of Dhading to tax NGOs and INGOs and mandatory registration while working in one district has been criticized.

The decision made by the Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality to give permission to work in Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality only after paying Rs 10,000 annually has been criticized.

However the Rural Municipality is claiming that they are only charging entry fee from such organizations. The NGOs and civil society are claiming that they have been charged excessively as they are non-profit organization. They said that if the Rural Municipality is charging fees like this, there won’t be the environment to work anymore.

INSEC chairperson Subodh Raj Pyakurel said that charging high fees repeatedly from NGOs must be stopped and their work must not be restricted at any cost. He added that there should be one door system for NGOs working for social justice.
