Six Injured, Including Two Police Officers, in Clash During Inauguration Pathibhara Cable Car Construction

Six people were injured in a clash on November 8 in Phungling Municipality-4 during the inauguration of cable car construction in the Pathibhara area. Inspector Digendra Oli and Assistant Sub-Inspector Abinash Maji of the Armed Police Force were among the injured during the clash.

During the inauguration of the cable car construction at the famous pilgrimage site Pathibhara on November 8, a clash occurred between supporters and opponents of the project. Damodar Adhikari, approximately 37 years old from Phungling Municipality-4, and Kumar Sherpa, approximately 35 years old from Meringden Rural Municipality-4, both supporting the construction, were injured in the incident. Chandra Maden, approximately 43 years old from Fungling Municipality-4, and Arjun Limbu, approximately 39 years old from Phaktanglung Rural Municipality-5, who assisted pilgrims to reach the Pathibhara area, were injured while opposing the cable car construction, stating it would harm the cultural integrity of the Pathibhara area.

All the injured individuals received treatment at Tamor Hospital and the District Hospital in Taplejung. The program for inaugurating the construction of a cable car station was scheduled for November 8 at Kafle Pati in Tallo Phedi, Phungling Municipality-4. The program was attended by CPN-UML District Chairperson Damberdhwaj Tumbahamphe, Fungling Municipality Mayor Amir Maden, and others. However, as soon as the event began, individuals opposing the cable car construction in Pathibhara started throwing stones.

Amir Maden, the Mayor of Fungling Municipality, stated that the cable car initiation was carried out using an excavator amidst the opposition. Various groups, including the Mukkumlung Conservation Committee, have been protesting against the cable car construction in Pathibhara, stating that the project should not be carried out. On the other hand, the supporters of the cable car project have urged people not to oppose it, stating that the cable car will make travel to the famous pilgrimage site more convenient and enhance the tourism value of Taplejung.
