Significant Number of Prisoners of Jhumka Jail Suffering From Skin Diseases

Dr. Devraj Ghimire, Medical Superintendent of the District Hospital, said that a significant number of inmates who underwent health check-ups in the health camp, conducted with the help of the District Hospital, were infected with skin diseases.

Medical Superintendent Ghimire said that excessive infection of ringworm and scabies is prevalent among the prisoners. Overcrowding could be the main reason for skin infections in prisoners.

Ghimire said that examination showed that patients suffered from mental problems, joint problems, hernia, eye problems, and diabetes.

Jail administrator Bhim Prasad Bhattarai said that a team of 40 doctors conducted a health examination of 1,680 prisoners.

Jail administrator Bhattarai said that the three-day camp, initiated on May 15, 2023, was conducted in two phases. Prisoners of A and B blocks were examined in the first phase.

The health camp included specialist services, general medical services including nose, ear, and throat checkups, video x-ray, and surgery services

According to Chief District Officer Humkala Pandey, they conducted the camp to ensure prisoners’ right to health.
