The residents of Khateda, Silla, Kada, and Totbila in Adarsha Rural Municipality-6 have been facing drinking water shortage for years. Due to this, the locals have been enduring significant challenges every year. Adarsha Rural Municipality has a population of nearly 7,000, out of which 6,000 have been facing drinking water issues.

Tej Raikal, a resident of Khateda, complained that despite facing drinking water issues for years, the local government and concerned authorities have not paid any attention to the issue. He stated that due to having to walk for hours to fetch drinking water in the early morning darkness, there is a risk of attacks by wild animals. Additionally, drinking water from wells and open sources has led to waterborne diseases.

Gauri Raikal, another resident, complained that due to spending a lot of time fetching water, children are unable to have meals on time and maintain hygiene. This also affects sending children to school, washing clothes, farming vegetables, and cleanliness.

Lal Khadayat, the Chairperson of Adarsha Rural Municipality-6, stated that although the local government has been making efforts to provide drinking water to the residents, the municipality’s budget alone cannot solve the problem. Therefore, initiatives have been taken to manage the budget by approaching the provincial and federal governments.

Although Article 35 of the Constitution of Nepal guarantees the right to clean drinking water and sanitation as part of the right to health, the residents of Girichowk have been facing drinking water issues for years.
