Sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for statutory rape

The District Court has sentenced 61-year-old Pare Kami of Thantikand Rural Municipality-5 Tolijaisi to 18 years of imprisonment on December 28, 2023 for the crime of raping a 14-year-old girl. The bench of the District Judge Balram Lamsal has sentenced the accused to 18 years in prison, imposed a fine of 700,000 rupees, and ordered compensation of 50,000 rupees to the victim. Additionally, 2,200 rupees are to be deposited in the victim’s relief fund, as stated by Badri Lamichhane, the Registrar of the court.

The aggrieved party filed a complaint at the District Police Office, Dailekh on August 28 asserting that the victim was raped on July 30, 2022.. The health examination of the victim was conducted on August 27 at Dailekh Hospital. The District Public Prosecutor’s Office, based on the police investigation, registered a case under the charge of rape in the District court on September 14 on the the same day the complaint was filed. In the verdict, the accused is sentenced to imprisonment and ordered to compensate the victim. Additionally, he is obligated to contribute to the Victim Assistance Fund for the relief of the victim.

Assistant District Attorney Nripraj Khadka from the District Public Prosecutor’s Office in Dailekh presented arguments on behalf of the victim. There is a legal provision allowing government lawyers to represent victims in criminal cases.
