Sentenced to 10 Years Imprisonment for Human Trafficking

District court sentenced 41-year-old Rajendra Shahi of Bajura District Jagannath Rural Municipality-2 to 10 years imprisonment on December 18, 2024 for the crime of human trafficking of a 24-year-old woman.

The District Court of Kailali, under the bench of Judge Pradeep Kumar Upadhyay, has found the accused guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in prison, a fine of 50,000 rupees, and ordered compensation of 29,000 rupees to be paid to the victim, as informed by Kamal Ghale, the information officer of the District Court, Kailali.

While the accused was attempting to lure the victim to India from Bajura, on January 8, 2024, during an interrogation at the Trinagar customs border, the victim filed a complaint against the accused at the District Police Office, Kailali, stating that the accused was trying to take her to India.

The medical examination of the victim was conducted on January 8 at Seti Provincial Hospital, Dhangadhi.
