Rights activists conducts field visit on Krishna Nagar Incident

The human rights activists including INSEC has conducted the field visit to the incident site where there was a dispute over the issue of putting the idol of Durga on October 19 at Krishna Nagar Municipality-2.

The monitoring team included INSEC district representative, Human Rights Organization, THRD, Madhesh Human Rights Griha and a team of media personnel.

During the monitoring, the team had gathered information from various personnel, police administrative, local campaigners, media personnel and local rights activists.

Rights activists have found the negligence from the security, lack of alert and delay on solving the issues were the major reason behind the incident.

In previous occasion as well there was a dispute while ending the Durga puja and same incident happened after the insensitivity shown by the local administration.

On the day of Bijaya Dashami on October 19, an unidentified group of people had pelted the stone on a mass of people celebrating Durga Puja and were doing some rituals of Durga idol in the pond. An unidentified people had pelted stones after the mass reached near the Masjid after rounding the market.

There was an exchange of stones near the Masjid on a dispute over taking film of the puja .

Police had charged baton to control the mob. In an incident 21 years old Sonu Gupta was seriously injured and was rushed to the hospital in Butwal.

After the situation was tensed, police opened fire on October 21 to control the mass protesting and demanding the action against those pelted stones during Durga Puja.

After the agreement could not be reach, the local administration decided to imposed curfew from the evening of October 21 till the morning of October 22.

DSP Rabi Rawal of DPO said that the administration was in confusion on whom to do a dialogue with as the mass was not particularly led by a leader.
